Flower Crown Friday
Last Friday Rachael travelled north to Burstwick, near Hull, to gather with 15 other instagrammers in a tipi.
Naturally I’m quite confident, but meeting total strangers I’ve only spoken to on the internet meant I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Me and my Mum (The Find Interiors) set out from Derby, coffee in hand and wellies in the boot, for a day of flower crown making, make-up ‘tutorialling’ and gin tasting!
It was our first social media meet up, gathering to celebrate Wendy Simpson’s 40th birthday. We arrived in good time in the rural village of Burstwick and parked up at Bloom and Gray. Sarah of B&G got into flower farming in 2017 when she threw in a few extra seeds for her own wedding flowers. It was great to be there as she expands her growing business in her new big top!
After the initial meet and greet in the field we all slipped inside the tipi to calm our crazed hair from the brisk Yorkshire wind and were transported to a magical den. The space was heavily scented with candles by The Little Yorkshire Candle Company [now incorporated within Born of Botanics] and little petals gently floated down every now and then from an amazing Hawthorne cloud suspended from the tipi top. There were furs on the floor, wooden benches and tables and there were flowers absolutely everywhere.
I was handed a glass bowl of pink prosecco by one of the co-hosts and struck up a conversation with a fellow guest.
Flower crowns and a Make-up tutorial
Sarah ran a flower crown workshop with her beautiful scented English country flowers . Her style is free and natural, as well as seasonal so the flower crowns were a great way to celebrate flowers from the farm.
We had a tutorial from Rachel Stainforth using Lily and Lolo products and were given a lovely goody bag with some of their products.
Gin Masterclass
After having had our make up done and feeling suitably adorned with flowers, we all sat down to listen to Dom from the Hooting Owl Distillery talk about the finer points of gin making. He took us on a journey of the senses throughout Yorkshire; we listened to the story behind each gin and the botanicals that have been chosen for North, South, East and West - as well as the classic gin and a very special gold gin!
They were all amazing and I had quite a bit!…
Afternoon tea
After gin came cake - and we were treated to a decadent afternoon tea complete with mini sandwiches, cakes, scones, macarons, tea and more tea! It was glorious!
Goody bag in hand, I came away feeling incredibly lucky to have had such a marvellous day out - even winning a Christy’s bath robe.
